How Often Do Horseshoes Need To Be Changed?

They say horseshoes will last only a few years, and they need to be changed after every use. However, you don’t have to spend money on new ones because of this; all you simply have to do is wrap the old one in a plastic bag or cloth before tossing it out with your trash.

Horses are often shod due to the fact that their hooves grow quickly and need to be trimmed frequently. Cows, on the other hand, do not have hooves and so they do not need shoes. Read more in detail here: why do horses need shoes but not cows.

The “why do horse hooves need to be trimmed” is a question that has been asked before. Horse hooves are made up of three layers. The first layer is the outer layer, which is called the shoe and is composed of hard horn material. The second layer is the middle layer, which consists of soft tissue called the frog. The third layer is the inner layer, which contains blood vessels and nerves.
